Explore picturesque villages, meet local shepherds, enjoy breathtaking mountain sceneries
This full day excursion will definitely make you fall in love with the Madonie!
We offer this tour from July to November, when some of the local shepherds move high in the mountains to find fresh grass for their animals.
We depart from Castelbuono and cross imposing Carbonara Massif, the Madonie main mountain. We stroll in charming villages, including Petralia Soprana which was declared most beautiful village in Italy in a national contest in 2018. We also stop at fascinating nature sites, such like Piano Battaglia and its coral fossils and Pizzo Canna cliff, where the golden eagle nests. Last but not least, we meet some of the last traditional shepherds during the cheese-making process. We spend a couple of hours with them chatting, having cheese and ricotta and - if you whish - giving a hand. We have lunch at the shepherds'.
